BUFFALO, N.Y. — Every week, 2 On Your Side’s Joshua Robinson takes a closer look at what’s new, unique and happening across the Western New York food scene in “Out 2 Eat.”
Sometimes-- especially when it comes to the holidays-- that also means taking a closer look at the local cocktail scene.
The best way to break that bitter cold, many would agree, is a warm mixed drink to lift your holiday spirits.
Don't worry, Western New York is in no short supply of them:

If eggnog is your go-to holiday drink, and you haven't been to The Place on Lexington, you're welcome in advance!
They're one of the Western New York restaurants embracing "Tom and Jerry's," which is similar to eggnog, made with brandy, rum, hot water, and meringue.
They've also ordered a limited supply of specialty mugs just for these drinks, which means you could possibly end up taking one home.

We can't do a hot cocktail special without some local variation of a hot toddy. If you've ever wandered into Buffalo's resident soccer bar, Mes Que on Hertel, you've probably found one you like already.

Sometimes the best way to serve a cocktail is with a little added flare, especially when it helps keep a hot buttered rum hot.
You'll find just that over at Hydraulic Hearth in Larkinville, as their buttered rum is served in a little glass teapot, a perfectly warm concoction of a house batter, their specialty rum blend, brown ale and hot water.
