Every week, 2 On Your Side’s Joshua Robinson takes a closer look at what’s new, unique and happening across the Western New York food scene in “Out 2 Eat.”
Not all foods are created equal.
There are a lot of reasons why chocolate is one of the most universally adored sweets in the world, and one of those reasons is its diversity in blending with other foods.
And there is no shortage of “chocolate plus” options in Western New York, including a dessert you’ve likely never seen before. Check it out for yourself:
Alethea’s (Instagram: @aletheaschoco)
You don’t gain a 30+ year reputation for fresh gourmet chocolates without doing something very, very right.
And as the holidays roll around, I count 11 or more boxes of specialty chocolate variety boxes with options ranging from the traditional (drenched biscotti, classic truffles and peanut butter squares) to the truly unique (ever tasted a chocolate covered potato chip cluster?)
Platters (Instagram: @platterschocolates)
It’s a 79+ year tradition to say Platters is a sponge candy favorite across Western New York, but they’re working on a new, 2-year tradition this year.
It’s all part of a collaboration with Ellicottville Brewing Company, their second year of rolling out an Orange Chocolate Blonde Ale together.
The cans are in limited supply, shipped out to a number of local grocery shops, so grab one as soon as you can find it.
This Little Pig (Instagram: @thislittlepigeats)
Tell me if you’ve ever seen this combination of words strung together before:
Chocolate Dipper Espresso Beef Jerky.
No? Trust me… I hadn’t either, until I stumbled upon the picture of a truly unique dessert served at This Little Pig, featuring the coated jerky with a tart cherry ice cream.
And it’s all locally sourced!
