WEST SENECA, N.Y. — We have been keeping up with the journey of West Seneca's Sydney Sterlace, who is currently competing on this season of NBC's popular singing competition show "The Voice."
On Monday night viewers got to see Sydney compete in her first round of singing battles, where she was chosen by her coach, Gwen Stefani, to move onto the next round.
Sydney sat down with 2 On Your Side's MaryAlice Demler on Thursday to share how her experience is going so far.
"What was it like for your family and for your friends when you made it on the show," MaryAlice asks "were they, I imagine, excited?"
"They were so excited and it was so hard to keep the fact that I auditioned away from my friends," Sydney said. "Because of course, I tell them everything, but once they found out they were all freaking out and, they're always there for me. My family is my biggest supporters, so it's been great to have them."
Since her debut on the show Sydney has not only gained the support of Western New York, but also people from all over the world have begun to follow her on social media, rooting her on.
"I've had so many people reach out to me, not only from Buffalo, but also different countries." Sydney said. "It's been really nice to see the support all around the world."
When asked about how she got her start in singing, Sydney says that her parents would joke that she could sing before she could even talk. She has been singing around Buffalo ever since, ultimately leading her to "The Voice."
Some people may even recognize Sydney, as she says that she often sings at coffee shops around Western New York. such as Spot Coffee.
In preparation for her opportunity on "The Voice," Sydney trained with voice teachers from her high school, as well as a private vocal coach.
"I've had so many people get me to where I am right now, and I'm so grateful for that." she said.
