Smashing a pumpkin for Columbus Day

It's an annual Columbus Day tradition in Clarence; dropping a giant pumpkin from a crane.

CLARENCE, N.Y. — It's not every day you can see a 1,000-pound pumpkin dropped from 100 feet in the air!

The annual Pumpkin Drop at the Great Pumpkin Farm in Clarence, with 97 Rock, was held Monday afternoon for Columbus Day.

The pumpkin exploded the second it hit the ground.

Then, people were given the chance to scoop up one of 97 tokens hidden inside the pumpkin, which could be traded in for prizes.
