Record setter: 2,269-pound pumpkin wins Clarence Center man $3,500

Eleven entries took part in the annual World Pumpkin Weigh-off over the weekend at the Great Pumpkin Farm in Clarence.

CLARENCE, N.Y. — Karl Haist of Clarence Center won first place with his pumpkin that weighed 2,269 pounds, setting a record for the event. Haist won $2,500, plus an extra $1,000 bonus for having a pumpkin that weighed more than 2,000 pounds.

Haist also won first place last year when he set a New York State record for his pumpkin that weighed 2,027 pounds.

Andy Wolf of Little Valley took second place with a pumpkin that weighed 1,911.5 pounds. Wolf went home with $1,500, plus an extra $1,000 for having a pumpkin weighing more than 1,900 pounds. 

Third place went to Tim Bailey from Jamestown with a pumpkin that weighed in at 1,604 pounds, winning him $1,000. 

Fourth place went to Jeff Podraza from West Seneca. His 1,462-pound pumpkin won him $750.
