BUFFALO, N.Y. — There's less than one week left in 2019, which means Buffalo is getting ready for the annual ball drop on New Year's Eve.
Crews tested out the set-up Friday morning at the Electric Tower.
The test helps organizers time out the countdown to the new year and ensure all the lights on the ball are working for the big event on Tuesday.
They're also anticipating a larger crowd than normal this year because the weather looks mild and the Sabres have a home game that night.
Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown was there for the test.
It's the 32nd year for an event that raises money for the Police Athletic League, featuring performances from Tommy Z and the All Star Band and saxophonist Will Holton starting at 10 p.m.
"So when I think of all the traditions we have throughout the year, I can't think of anything more profound and significant than New Year's Eve to bring us together," said Tommy Z, a member of the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame.
"It's one of the few times we get to come together and celebrate new beginnings as a community, and we really should be thankful to have this here in Buffalo."
And if you're headed down there New Year's Eve, parking will be free at the Fernbach and Turner ramps.
