The first snowflakes of the season may arrive next week

Some snow is possible near Halloween or just after for parts of WNY

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The coolest air mass of the season is set to arrive, either on, or just after Halloween next week.

With that will come the first opportunity of some snowflakes in WNY. It appears that the Buffalo-metro area could see a few snowflakes with possible minor accumulations in the hills by the middle of next week . Its too early to predict exact locations and amounts of snow but it does not look to be very much.

Historically, the first flakes observed in Buffalo occurs on average  by the third week of October, so this would be a little later than usual.

Last year flurries were reported on three days in the middle of October.

On average, the first measurable snow occurs in Buffalo around 1st week November, and the 1st inch of snow by the third week of November.
