Second hit of snow for WNY blows in

In less than 24 hours, another snowstorm will hit Western New York, potentially bringing 40-mile-per-hour winds and up to 18 inches of snow.

While everyone else was inside watching the Bills Monday afternoon, Buffalo resident Bridger Cherry was outside digging out.

“Oh, I don’t watch football,” he said. “Definitely the last thing I want to do after work.”

The weekend’s lake effect snowstorm blanketed all of Western New York, bringing whiteout conditions, 55-mile-per-hour winds, and in some parts, nearly three feet of snow.

Bridger witnessed them from his home firsthand.

“It was windy, man,” he said. “It was so windy. I feel like if you went outside, you’d blow away.”

While Bridger spent the afternoon shoveling outside his home, the city can only focus so much on recovery.

Instead, it’s mostly preparing for Round 2.

“We will get I won't even say a break,” Public Works Commissioner Nate Marton said. “We'll get a little respite… We've already had a couple of strategy sessions about that.”

In less than 24 hours, another snowstorm will hit Western New York, potentially bringing 40-mile-per-hour winds and up to 18 inches of snow. It is expected to begin Tuesday night.

“We're having the same conversations,” Marton said. “How do we make sure we're clearing mains, secondaries and residential? We're planning that out now.”

The threat of even more snow leaves residents like Cherry bracing to pull the snow shovel out for the fourth day in a row.

“I'm ready for it as much as I can be,” he said.
