2 more tornadoes confirmed in WNY

Two tornadoes touched down in WNY Monday evening, bringing the total tornado count to nine tornadoes in WNY this active summer season.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — It was another active evening in Western New York Monday evening and two more tornadoes have been confirmed. One on Grand Island and another in Indian Falls near north Pembroke.

The National Weather Service Storm Survey team confirmed a brief, weak EF-0 tornado touched down in the hamlet of Indian Falls in Genesee County at 8:33pm Monday evening, from near NY Route 77 to Little Falls Rd.  Max winds were 75 mph, path length was 0.2 miles, width 50 yards, and duration was two minutes.  About a half dozen trees were damaged or blown down, but all trees showed significant rot.

The National Weather Service Storm Survey team also confirmed an EF-0 tornadic waterspout came on land near West River Road and 3rd Avenue on west Grand Island in Erie county at 4:33pm Monday early evening. Max winds were 85 mph, width was 75 yards, and track length was 1.2 miles.

This brings the total tornado count to 9 tornadoes in WNY this very active summer season of 2024 (average is one to two annually), and 31 tornadoes in New York State.  Both are records.
