Bret continues to weaken.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Tropical Storm Bret has continued to weaken with maximum sustained winds at 50 mph and was heading west at 21 mph as of Friday night. The National Hurricane Center is predicting this continued motion and also weakening.  The system is likely to dissipate over the central Caribbean Sea during Saturday night or Sunday.

Those traveling to areas along or near the storm system's path should check on flights and trip plans to make sure there aren't any changes through the weekend because of the weather.  Some local travelers have already had plans affected.

The amount of wind shear in the atmosphere closer to the Gulf of Mexico will help determine how long and how strong this tropical storm system holds together. Which looks like it is weakening.

This formation of tropical storms well out in the Atlantic this early in the hurricane season is not common.  The waters are already that warm.  And a second system is right behind Bret.

Tropical Storm Cindy is out in the central Atlantic.  Cindy had maximum sustained winds at 50 mph and was heading west-northwest at 16 mph as of Friday night. The National Hurricane Center is predicting this continued motion for the next several days.  Slight strengthening is forecast over the next day (over the weekend), followed by gradual weakening.
