Widespread snow may impact our area later Saturday into Sunday.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Potter county in northern Pennsylvania from 11 a.m. Saturday until 1 a.m. Sunday, with 5 to 8 inches of snow possible.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Allegany County in Western New York from 1 p.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Sunday, for 3 to 6 inches of snow there, and for McKean County in northern Pennsylvania from 11 a.m. Saturday until 1 a.m. Sunday for 3 to 5 inches of snow.

There will be lower amounts as you head further west and northwest, roughly 1 to 2 inches, including Buffalo.  Look for higher amounts further east and southeast.

While Western New York will be mostly spared from the storm, other parts of the state could see up to a foot of snow.

Snow accumulations locally this weekend.

“New Yorkers are no strangers to snow, but it’s always important to be prepared and to know how to safely handle incoming weather,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said. “I urge everyone to pay attention to their local forecast and to plan travel accordingly.”

There may be some lake effect snow east and southeast of the lakes during Sunday with a couple more inches possible.

It's looking dry, briefly, for Monday as high pressure squeezes in to start the week off.

Then we are watching a stronger storm system possibly for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, which could bring a combination of snow, rain and windy conditions to our area.

Keep checking in for updates.
