Here's where to see fall leaves in New York State

The beautiful changing leaves have reached peak and past peak in most parts of our state into this weekend.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Those gorgeous changing leaves across our state are winding down as we head into this weekend.

Here is the weekly Fall Foliage report of the 2024 season, for this week of Oct. 30 to Nov. 5 for New York State, by www.iloveny.com/foliage.

According to the latest report, our state has a few more spots left of peak colors including near Buffalo in Western New York, and around Rochester, also New York City and Long Island.  Past peak colors now for most of the state.

The detailed report states, "in Erie County, 90% change and past-peak conditions in Buffalo with a bright mix of fall colors and significant droppage. In Genesee County, 95% and past-peak conditions in Batavia with muted-to-average oranges and significant leaf droppage. In Niagara County, more than 95% and past-peak conditions in Lewiston with bright red, yellow, orange and magenta leaves. 100% and peak conditions in Niagara Falls with a fall color mix. In Orleans County, 70% and peak in Albion with bright autumnal shades. In Wyoming County, 100% and past-peak conditions in Warsaw with muted-to-bright fall hues, and significant droppage."

The report continues, "in Cayuga County, nearly 90% change and past-peak conditions in Auburn with muted-to-average yellows and reds. In Chemung County, 90% and just-past-peak conditions in Elmira with bright seasonal shades. In Livingston County, 85% and past-peak conditions in Geneseo with very brilliant shades of yellow and orange, along with some red. In Monroe County, 90-95% and peak-to-past-peak conditions in Rochester with muted-to-average yellow, red, orange and brown leaves, and some remaining green closer to Lake Ontario. 70-75% change and just-past-peak conditions in the city’s Brighton neighborhood with mostly bright yellow and orange-gold leaves, and some dark red-maroon leaves. In Onondaga County, 85% and just-past-peak conditions at Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville with muted-bright shades of yellow, orange and brown. In Tioga County, 80% and past-peak conditions in Owego with muted-to-average yellow and brown leaves. In Oswego County, 90-95% change and just-past-peak conditions in Oswego County with orange, red and yellow leaves.

In Manhattan, 75% change on the Lower East Side with bright yellow leaves. In Brooklyn, 80% and peak foliage at Green-Wood Cemetery with mostly yellow leaves and some pockets of red and green.

In Nassau County, 85% change and peak conditions at Hempstead Lake State Park in West Hempstead with brilliant ochre, burnt umber, cranberry and tangerine leaves. 80% with peak and past-peak foliage along the Northern State Parkway. The rest of the parkway system and expressways in Nassau are mostly past-peak color, with some peak patches. 50% and peak conditions at Valley Stream State Park in Valley Stream with average-bright shades of red and yellow."

The Fall Foliage report is apparently based on field reports from volunteer observers for the Empire State Development Division of Tourism’s I LOVE NY program.
