BUFFALO, N.Y. — Lake effect snow is looking likely during Thursday morning's commute, with a quick 1 to 2 inches of snow possible late overnight and into the morning.
Southwesterly winds are going to develop late Wednesday night, and given that Lake Erie is still relatively warm, a band of lake effect snow is expected to develop.
The band of snow will form across the Southern Tier and southern Erie County early Thursday morning. That band of snow will lift over the southtowns and western Southern Tier, near daybreak, and then continue to lift into or near the Buffalo-metro area, possibly in time for the morning drive with potentially reduced visibilities and a slower commute.
Temperatures will be cool enough that the lake effect precipitation will come in the form of snow before mixing over to some rain showers by the middle of the day and then fading as the band lifts north and into Niagara county.
Snow totals look fairly low, possibly an inch or two but the timing could make for a slow and slippery commute. This will be the last of the winter weather for a little while as temperatures do warm back into the 50s this weekend.
