Winter Winter Advisory expires for parts of Western New York

Lingering lake effect and strong winds will make for less than ideal travel conditions.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — After many areas picked up a solid amount of accumulation, we are expecting the wintry conditions to continue for the rest of the weekend.

A Winter Weather Advisory was in effect until 1 a.m. Sunday for the Southern Tier. The northwesterly winds will be the fuel to keep that lake effect snow going across much of the area. As we head into the evening and overnight, the snow will start to dissipate and accumulations will be minimal, except for areas in the eastern Southern Tier and areas in Wyoming County, where snowfall totals could include an additional 1 to 2 inches. Travel will be difficult with that loose snow falling and being blown around, which will lead to reduced visibility.

The second half of the weekend will feature slightly warmer temperatures but it will still be cold and remind us of winter. Temperatures will head up into the upper 20s and low 30s. There will be some snow that moves through Western New York during the afternoon on Sunday and there could be another coating to 1 inch of accumulation.

The wintry feel will be gone by Monday as temperatures will warm up to above the seasonal average for this time of year and the sunshine will return.
