Arrivals and departures: Bills, Sabres opponents experience travel delays

After experiencing travel delays, both teams finally were able to get going on where they wanted to be Sunday.

CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. — The Vancouver Canucks played Saturday afternoon in Buffalo. The Pittsburgh Steelers have a game Monday evening in Orchard Park.

After experiencing travel delays, both teams finally were able to get going on where they wanted to be Sunday.

Let's start with the Steelers, who were originally scheduled to leave Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon for their AFC wild card game, but dangerous weather rolling across Western New York altered those plans and a 1 p.m. Sunday start.

Instead, they flew out Sunday afternoon for a game that's now scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. Monday. The Steelers, through their social media accounts, documented their long-awaited departure.

2 On Your Side sports reporter Lindsey Moppert was at Buffalo Niagara International Airport on Sunday when the Steelers' plane touched down.

As for the Canucks, catching a plane proved to be a little more difficult.

After blanking the Sabres 1-0 at KeyBank Center on Saturday night, they took a bus to Toronto. From there, they will fly to Columbus, where they will take on the Blue Jackets at 1 p.m. Monday, according to a team employee.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said crews were working diligently to clear roads and get things back to normal.

“Our crews have been working around the clock to keep the roads clear and New Yorkers safe, and I am grateful that the vast majority of New Yorkers heeded our ban and stayed off the road,” Hochul said. “As conditions are improving in the Northtowns we are lifting the travel ban there, but if you do not have to travel today, stay home and let our crews continue to work. If you are in Central Erie County and much of the Southtowns, continue to stay home.”
