WEST SENECA, N.Y. — As much snow has fallen across Western New York, one town has stood above the competition these past five days.
West Seneca has topped the snowfall charts according to the latest totals from the National Weather Service.
Over 6 feet of snow has fallen in West Seneca since Saturday night, some 74.5 inches.
One neighbor told 2 On Your Side they've been taking the weather as it comes, and another said he is celebrating the snow after such a quiet November and December.
The snowfall total was 65 inches Thursday morning, but thanks to another round of lake effect snow throughout the day, that total kept climbing. Along Union Road there is a wall of snow on either side. The drive-thru menu at the Tim Hortons near Southgate Plaza was half buried.
"It's kind of nuts at this point and it keeps coming I don't know," said Matthew Bauer, a West Seneca Resident and sanitation worker.
Snow piles topped 20 feet in the Tops parking lot on Orchard Park Road where crews were working hard all day against Mother Nature. Grocery carts could be seen buried in the mess.
Lori, a lifelong Buffalonian, couldn't help but smile at the weather.
Bauer and Lori said the roads have been slick, but they added that as long as drivers take it slow and respect the heavy equipment out there, everything should be fine.
"It's just been a great time for people to slow down and realize this is what it is. If you live here and you got to love it, or else you move down there, and I'm not going anywhere. This is my town," she said.
