EDEN, N.Y. — Town and community leaders are stepping up in Eden after a tornado ripped through the town last week.
A fund has been created to help those victims cover repair cost. People can make donations by clicking here to give to The Eden Tornado Relief Fund. Cash donations will also be accepted at the Eden Town Clerk's Office at 2795 East Church St.
"Just to look at the overall destruction that happened in four minutes is unbelievable," Town Supervisor Rich Ventry said of the July 10 tornado.
Ventry says that town leaders are also working with business to help people navigate insurance claims to get reimbursed for damages.
Next Saturday, July 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., ongoing storm cleanup will be at the heart of a working volunteer day at Gorcica Field. The Eden Central School District donated a school bus for the day.
"People can meet there, and then they're gonna hop on the bus," Ventry said. "They're going to take them to people's houses that need help still. So basically, we're gonna be pulling branches, helping them get trees to the road so that our highway can pick them up."
Varney discussed cleanup that will happen at one home. A woman reached out for help after a tree fell on her home during the tornado. It smashed all of her windows. She has two young children and a dog, and she needs help clearing the pieces of glass from her yard.
If you're willing to offer your talents for the working volunteer day, Ventry asks you to call Eden Town Hall at 716-992-3408 so that they can figure out how many people are willing to help with cleanup efforts.
