ALLEGANY COUNTY, N.Y. — Grants of up to $50,000 are available to eligible homeowners who have been impacted by severe weather caused by the remnants of Hurricane Debby this past weekend.
Gov. Kathy Hochul — speaking Sunday afternoon in Canisteo, in Steuben County — said the grants would cover health and safety-related repairs that are not covered by insurance or other disaster relief programs. They will be available for people in Allegany, Delaware, Franklin, Steuben, and St. Lawrence counties.
“State agencies have teams on the ground helping to clear damage and we are working with our local partners as they begin damage assessments,” Governor Hochul said.
“We will continue to provide rapid relief for impacted residents and municipalities as these communities rebuild from the devastating remnants of Hurricane Debby.”
People who are eligible for the grant can apply here.
"Applicants must be homeowners who occupy the home as a primary residence and total household income may not exceed 100 percent of the county area median income," the Governor's Office said.
The governor said state officials will work with local organizations to help New Yorkers get the assistance they need.
"We are going to send mobile vans here to help people with their insurance," Hochul said Sunday. "Because people never saw this coming, they didn't expect to be in this position, but we know how to deal with this. Our state teams will be on the ground, answering questions, helping people fill out forms, so they can get their insurance money sooner."
