HAMBURG, N.Y. — The heavy snow that came down during the storm this past weekend forced many people to abandon their vehicles.
Erie County had many vehicles in the Southtowns towed to the McKinley Mall in Hamburg.
To help people find their that were towed to that location by Erie County, the county created a database with the vehicles that are there. To see if your vehicle is there, go to their website at: www.erie.gov/towedvehicles.
The website will not include tows by other agencies.
Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said that cars that were towed to the lot would be ticketed for the cost of towing the vehicle, in addition to the ticket for driving during the travel ban.
County officials say the City of Buffalo also had to tow several vehicles during the height of the storm so they could clear streets. Those vehicles were taken to the Outer Harbor State Park.
There is still a travel ban in the south portion of the City of Buffalo.
At a briefing Saturday night from Poloncarz reported that some cars still needed to be towed to the lot. Cars that had not been towed would not show up on the towed vehicle website linked above.
Poloncarz also mentioned that some vehicles had suffered damage from plows if they were abandoned in the middle of the road. When the snow was coming down at a significant rate plows were sometimes not able to see cars left in the road.
