BUFFALO, N.Y. — On Dec. 23, 2022, a large tree fell into the back of a Buffalo home. Snow started piling up after the tree tore through part of the roof.
Almost a year later, the Kermit Avenue home is still in disrepair and uninhabitable. Homeowner Tanisha Morrow said when the tree crashed into the home, the family was trapped inside for a couple of days.
Nearly all of their belongings on the upper floor was destroyed.

The insurance company provided funds for the family to get the home fixed. The initial $30,000 was paid to a contractor, and the home was stripped down to the studs.
However, according to Morrow, the worked stopped, and it's been a problem getting the job done.
"I hired a contractor. I gave him a $30,000 deposit, that's what he required, and he said guaranteed it would take 90 days for me to be in my house," Morrow said.
She and her husband and children have been living in hotels and temporary housing for close to 11 months.
"I don't never want nobody to ever go through this," she said.

For now the Morrows are unable to stay in their home. Tanisha Morrow and her husband, a veteran, have serious health issues.
"I'm actively doing chemo. I have lupus. My husband just had surgery at Roswell. I have to get my family back in their home. I'm not promised to be here tomorrow," she said.
She is also a block club president. Her home has been the place with an open door to help others.
"I know that the east side of Buffalo may not mean much to others, but it means a whole lot to me and especially my street. I love each and every last one of my neighbors. I'll be damned if I allow anybody else to ever be taken advantage of by another contractor," Tanisha said.
At this time the family is hoping skilled workers will help get the house back in shape so they can return by Christmas 2023.
