BUFFALO, NY -- This year's cold season is off to a warmer than average start. Precipitation has been well below normal as well. And now Buffalo may set a new record for latest first snowfall recorded.
No measurable (0.1") snow has yet been recorded in Buffalo this cold season, with only a trace so far at the Buffalo Airport.
This is close to the latest snowfall ever recorded in Buffalo (in more than 140 years). That was on December 3rd in 1899 when there was the latest tenth of an inch of snow recorded.
With the forecast this week it looks like there's a good chance we will at least tie the December 3rd record date, if not break it, by several days potentially. Some snow is possible late Wednesday night into Thursday, but may not reach 0.1" needed to be counted. The next chance of snow won't be until after this weekend.
January 3rd, 1923 holds the latest first inch of snow. At least this January date should remain.
