Buffalo, NY -- The Lake Erie ice cover has fluctuated quite a bit this winter, and even week to week.
The Lake Erie ice cover early last week was at 93 percent after a cold spell.
Then the area received record heat early this week and now the ice cover has dropped to 68 percent.
There are many examples of this back to back freeze and thaw on the lake this year.
This includes a barely frozen lake in late January, to an almost iced over lake just over a week after that.
Since the lake continues to thaw, Western New York will continue to have a chance for lake effect snow off Lake Erie for this last month of winter.
