ELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y. — The weather is getting colder and that means it is almost time for skiing and snowboard season.
One local ski resort is getting a head start on the snowmaking process.
Holiday Valley in Ellicottville says they will begin the snowmaking process beginning Tuesday night in advance of the predicted cold temperatures.
"It will be a limited run on Yodeler, Mardi Gras and the Candy Cane loop. They will also be testing the system in several locations throughout the resort. The weather prediction is for warming temperatures on Thursday, so the resort does not expect to be able to make enough snow to open just yet," Holiday Valley’s Director of Mountain Operations, Steve Crowley said in a release.
Holiday Valley says their target opening date for the 2020-2021 season is Friday, November 27.
The goal by getting a head start on the snowmaking process is to make stockpiles of snow in the core area, and to also to test the system and prepare for the next wave of cold temperatures.
