BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Winter Weather Advisory for southern Erie, Wyoming, Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties until 10 p.m. Thursday is no longer in effect.  It was in effect for another 2 to 3 inches, mainly for the higher elevations east of Lake Erie. Also gusty winds that could produce blowing snow at times earlier, further reducing visibilities.

The cleanup continues from the high wind damage on Tuesday this week for many spots in WNY.

Peak wind gusts reported Tuesday from the National Weather service show many locations reached 55 to 65 mph wind gusts especially near the Lake Erie shoreline in Chautauqua county, even 74 mph recorded at the Dunkirk Airport, 70 mph at the Buffalo Airport, and 70 mph in Blasdell.  Irving reached 65 mph, Fredonia 60 mph, Delevan, Wellsville and Lime Lake 59 mph, and East Aurora 54 mph.

These high winds caused damage and brought down trees and wires to many locations across much of WNY.  This caused many power outages and even some road closures.  In Westfield a large tree fell onto a house on Beckman St. In Harris Hill a downed power pole closed Roll Rd between Harris Hill Rd and Shimerville Road In Clarence a broken pole with a powerline was reported down and crossing Nice Road, in Orchard Park a tree down on Milestrip Road, Millgrove had a tree down at Buckwheat Rd and North Millgrove Road, Clarence Center had a tree reported down on Thompson Road.

There was one report of one person injured in Lockport from a tree on a car at the intersection of West High Street and south Transit Road reported around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday (National Weather Service).

In Irving a tractor trailer was overturned on the Thruway, and in Westfield a tractor trailer rolled over on I-90.  Also a tree was reported down on Old Lakeshore Rd in Eden, tree down on Newton Rd in Hamburg. Trees and wires were down in Brocton, Glenwood, Harris Hill, Gowanda, Hamburg, Holland, Glenwood, East Otto, Ashford, South Valley, Cattaraugus, and the Town of Allegany.

Downed trees were found on Three Rod Rd near the Marilla Town Park. Trees were reported down in Depew, Fillmore, the Town of Orangeville, the Town of Sheldon, Collins, and in the Town of Ward. Also areas north felt some impact too including in Newfane a tree down on powerlines on Beebe Rd, a tree down in Lockport on Park Ave, trees and powerlines down in Albion, Carlton and Clarendon, and also in Java Center, Elba and Byron. These storm reports are according to the National Weather Service.

Secure items around your property like garbage totes and exterior furniture. High-profile vehicles may experience hazardous travel conditions. Taking down (or at least secure) Christmas decorations. With winds this high, power lines down and power outages are likely.  Most of the wind in our region comes from the Southwest. Most trees in our area grow & strengthen to withstand these winds.  But this wind storm brought strong winds from the southeast.
