Winter Storm Warning has expired

BUFFALO, N.Y. — It's here: Another potent storm system will continue to impact our area the rest of the weekend with heavy lake effect snow. Snow totals so far have already exceeded 2 feet, including in Alden, Angola, Lancaster, West Seneca and Hamburg.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect now only for Northern Erie, until 1 PM.

The lake effect snow storm snow totals coming in so far show Derby has already received 41 inches of snow,Alden 32 inches Angola 27 inches, Hamburg also 27 inches, Elma 23.8 inches, Lancaster 26 inches, Eden 22 inches, West Seneca 26 inches, Corfu 21 inches, Millgrove 20 inches, Orchard Park 17 inches, Middleport 17 inches, Marilla 16 inches, East Aurora 15 inches, Lockport 15 inches, Darien Center 14.5 inches, North Tonawanda 12 inches, Pembroke 12 inches, East Amherst 8.5 inches, Buffalo 11 inches, and the Buffalo Airport 8 inches which broke the old daily record snowfall amount of 7.8 inches set back in 1963 on this date of January 14th, all according to the National Weather Service.  

The lake effect snow band continues but is slowly weakening and moving north impacting central and northern Erie county, with snowfall rates 1 to 2 inches per hour at times.  But that is down from the impressive 3 to even 4 or 5 inches of snow per hour at times earlier Sunday from the very heavy lake effect snow band.  Breezy conditions will produce some blowing snow which will greatly reduce visibilities at times.

Total snow accumulations since Saturday into Monday morning of 1 to 3.5 feet..

A Winter Storm Watch is now in place for Erie, Wyoming and Genesee counties from tomorrow morning through Thursday night. More like effect snow is expected to develop tomorrow with light snow expected area wide. Lake effect snows are expected over the Buffalo metro area with heavy totals possible
