It’s a hot, sunny summer day, and you’re looking for some quick relief. You could crank up the A/C in your house, go on an ice cream run, or just head down to the Lake Erie shore.
The same lake that dumps big rounds of snow on Western New York in the winter also serves as one giant, natural air conditioner for downtown Buffalo and many other communities along the water. That cooling effect happens thanks to what’s called a lake breeze.
Learn more about how the lake breeze forms and how it impacts temperatures throughout the region in this week’s Heather’s Weather Whys.
For what it’s worth, that ice cream run is never a bad idea either!
