BUFFALO, N.Y. — Get the costumes ready for cold, rain and even some snow mixing in for Halloween this year.
The first snowflakes of the season are certainly possible, even some very minor accumulations mainly for the higher elevations of the Southern Tier.
Partly cloudy for the rest of Monday night and lows in the mid to low 30s. A rain and snow mix may return early in the morning briefly for areas just east and northeast of Lake Erie.
On Halloween rain showers will develop off the lake by mid-morning and into the afternoon with a mix of some snow and colder air moves in and produces some lake effect rain and snow east and northeast of the lake. High temperatures will only be in the low 40s and scattered rain and snow showers are possible for trick-or-treaters Tuesday evening for Halloween with temperatures in the upper 30s. Lows 30s overnight with some rain and snow possible. Little if any accumulation.
The strong cold front dropping down will bring cold air advection to our area and the cold flow of air could bring even colder temperatures to areas south. Higher elevations in the Southern Tier may only be in the 30s for highs and lows in the 20s for Halloween and into the overnight. Some rain and snow possible, half an inch of snow or less for the hills.
A few rain and snow showers are possible Wednesday morning and again Thursday morning with a dusting possible for many locations and the higher elevations south and into the Southern Tier could see half an inch of snow or less.
Any snowfall should melt quickly with highs reaching above freezing during the day time.
Dry weather is expected on Friday and Saturday with partly sunny skies and milder highs in the 50s.
