BUFFALO, N.Y. — February will close on a sunny and cold note after another snowy and seasonal month for this winter.

With little to no snow left in the forecast Monday, February's monthly snow total will likely be 23.1 inches. That's 5.6 inches above the climatological monthly average for February in Buffalo.

In addition, there was an average snow depth of 7 inches for the month, which was consistently fueled by 4 or 5 day stretches with at least a trace or more of snow accumulating daily. The day with the most snow this month was February 3 with 7.7 inches of snow measured at the National Weather Service Office in Buffalo at the Buffalo Airport.

February 2022 was generally very wet and snowy month too. And while no monthly weather records will be broken, one is close to reaching the top ten. Taking into account total precipitation for the month, the sum is 4.57 inches. This includes rain and water equivalent of snowfall. That sum approaches the top 10 for February, and well above average too, with 4.78 inches for February of 1958.

As for temperatures, the average monthly temperature observed this February is 28.8 degrees, which is 2.5 degrees above the climatological average of 26.3 degrees. A couple of afternoons with temperatures in the 50s from February 16 to 23 helped that number go up near the end of the month.

Looking ahead to the start of Meteorological Spring on March 1st, climate outlooks have the possibility of March starting off with above average temperatures and precipitation.
