The City of Buffalo has issued a Code Blue for Wednesday, February 14 and overnight shelters will be open for those in need.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Although the sun has been out recently temperatures still remain on the colder side in WNY.

The City of Buffalo has issued a Code Blue for Wednesday, February 14 and overnight shelters will be open for those in need from 8p.m. to 7a.m.

Warming shelter locations are as follows

  • 586 Genesee St, Buffalo, 14204 - accessible location, open 8p.m.-7a.m. (This location was formerly a women's shelter but will be open to all for Code Blue.)
  • Salvation Army, 960 Main St, Buffalo, 14202 - accessible location, open 8p.m.-8a.m.

A daytime warming shelter will also be open on Thursday, February 15 located at 586 Genesee St, Buffalo.

When the temperature drops below freezing or 15 degrees Fahrenheit, it triggers one of two alerts, Code Blue 32 or Code Blue 15. Emergency situations near zero degrees or with extreme weather trigger additional response. All Code Blues however result in the opening of daytime warming shelters and overnight housing at two locations if not more.
