Diocese of Buffalo shares Christmas warning: 'Do not attempt to attend masses in person'

The Diocese has asked that parishes with the capability to live-stream Christmas services, do so this weekend.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Diocese of Buffalo has urged parishioners not to attend Christmas services in person this year, citing treacherous conditions, heavy snowfall, and power outages.

"Do not attempt to attend Masses in person," said Bishop Michael W. Fisher in a statement Friday.

The Diocese has asked that parishes with the capability to live-stream Christmas services, do so this weekend. A list of Christmas services available for online viewing was included.

"Please respect the travel bans in our communities. Although it is Christmas, in these dangerous conditions, no one should put themselves or others at risk," the Bishop added in his message to churchgoers.

He also asked that people check on their neighbors who may be in need.

On Thursday, Our Lady of Victory Mgsr. David LiPuma said he was "hoping and praying" that people would have the opportunity to come but if not, that people would join the celebration from the comfort of their homes.

TV viewers in Western New York can watch OLV's Mass on Sunday, December 25 at 1:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on WGRZ - Channel 2.
