A Code Blue has been issued for Sunday night; 2 shelters open

The City of Buffalo has issued a Code Blue for Sunday, and overnight shelters will be open for those in need.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The City of Buffalo has issued a Code Blue for Sunday night, and overnight shelters will be open for those in need from 8p.m. to 7a.m.

Warming shelter locations are as follows:

  • 586 Genesee St, Buffalo, 14204 - accessible location, open 8 p.m. to 7a.m. (This location was formerly a women's shelter but will be open to all for Code Blue.)
  • Salvation Army, 960 Main St, Buffalo, 14202 - accessible location, open 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.

A daytime warming shelter will also be open on Monday at 586 Genesee Street in Buffalo.

When the temperature drops below freezing or 15 degrees Fahrenheit, it triggers one of two alerts, Code Blue 32 or Code Blue 15. Emergency situations near zero degrees or with extreme weather trigger additional response. All Code Blues however result in the opening of daytime warming shelters and overnight housing at two locations if not more.
