BUFFALO, N.Y. — A Code Blue has been issued for the City of Buffalo on Friday, November 17.
Only one overnight shelter location will be open at 586 Genesee Street from 8:00pm - 7:00am. The location was formerly just a women's shelter but for the Code Blue it will be open to all who need it.
Daytime warming will also be open on the following day Saturday, November 17.
People will also be able to utilize bus tickets from the NFTA Metro between the hours of 5:30pm - 7:30pm for transportation to shelter. People will not be allowed to wait at the NFTA though outside of the allotted NFTA Code Blue hours.
When the temperature drops below freezing or 15 degrees Fahrenheit, it triggers one of two alerts, Code Blue 32 or Code Blue 15. Emergency situations near zero degrees or with extreme weather trigger additional response. All Code Blues however result in the opening of daytime warming shelters and overnight housing at two locations if not more.
