BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Buffalo is setting a new record for the latest first snowfall, but the city is still ready for when the snow eventually comes.
Mayor Byron Brown unveiled new city snow fighting equipment on Tuesday. Mayor Brown along with the Department of Public Works Commissioner and DPW Deputy Commissioner of Streets and Snow Removal conducted the annual inspection of the snow fighting fleet.
This year there is $1.3 million in new snow fighting equipment including a new sidewalk snow remover, five new plows, one John Deere high lift and 23 salt spreaders in addition to the existing plows.
Snow fighting crews consist of almost 70 truck drivers, equipment operators and heavy equipment operators.
Buffalo will also being the snow season with 11,000 tons of salt on hand.
