BUFFALO, N.Y. — Until recently, the Buffalo Bills have not been featured much on the national stage that Monday Night Football provides.
In fact, in the past 15 years, the Buffalo Bills have played in only five Monday Night Football games at home in Orchard Park.
The weather has been good in only one of those games.
Monday Night Football provides national coverage with the opportunity to showcase the beauty of Western New York in areal shots or other beauty shots from network TV cameras.
It also serves the opportunity to dismiss the reputation that the weather is always awful here.
Unfortunately, the weather has not cooperated in dismissing this myth.
Four out of the past five home Monday Night Football games have had crummy weather conditions.
Last year, we all remember the tempest the rolled through when the Patriots where here on Monday night. It was cold and snowy for tailgaters and very windy for the game and the entire nation watched. Punts netted 5-10 yards and quarterback throws were forced to the ground before they crossed the line of scrimmage.
In 2020, the Monday night game featured the Kansas City Chiefs and a rain storm.
In 2018, the Patriots walloped the Bills in the cold and rain, and in 2008 the Cleveland Browns came to town with some November cold and a fresh 2" of snow from earlier in the day.
You have to go all the way back to 2007 when the weather was nice in Buffalo for Monday Night Football TV when the Dallas Cowboys where here. It was clear and 73 degrees.
By the way, there was a home Monday Night Football game in 2014. It ended up being played in Detroit. Why? Because nearly 72" of snow had just fallen which buried Ralph Wilson Stadium during "Snowvember."
This Monday, this tradition may follow suit. The forecast calls for rain and some wind. Most of it should end a few hours before kickoff and the game at this point looks to be dry.
