BUFFALO, N.Y. — An Air Quality Alert has been issued for all of Western New York, except Allegany county, for Friday until 11pm.
Ground level ozone levels will be elevated, reducing our air quality.
Because pollution levels are elevated, the New York State Department Of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to risk adverse health effects. Individuals that may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include those with pre-existing respiratory problems.
Weather conditions contributing to these elevated levels are the temperatures and the lack of wind.
The City of Buffalo has opened cooling centers and splash pads to help residents deal with the heat. You can find the full list of locations here.
