BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills will have their first home playoff game in 25 years on Saturday January 9, For many, memories of what the weather was like for home playoff games of the past may have been long forgotten.
The forecast for this Saturday is for a kick-off temperature of 32 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. Looking at the weather for past playoff home games, this forecast looks similar to the other games with a few notable exceptions.
Going back to the 1963 season, there have been 13 playoff or Championship games (the 1964 season featured a Championship game) played in Buffalo. All of the home playoff games had a temperature below 40 degrees with the exception of that 1964 Championship game, which had a game time temperature of 43 degrees and in 1996 when the game was played in 50 degree temperatures.
Every other game had temperatures in the 20s and 30s, which isn't a surprise given that the average high temperature for every day in January is either 31 or 32 degrees.
But there was one very notable exception to the norm. Who could forget the 1993 Divisional playoff game played on a frigid mid-January day. That game had a kickoff temperature of 0 degrees with a wind chill of -14 degrees as the Bills beat the Los Angeles Raiders.
From a precipitation standpoint most of the games have been dry with the playoff games in 1993, 1991 and 1967 featured some light snow.
