BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Erie County Legislature's minority caucus passed a new resolution Thursday, opposing the proposed toll hikes by the New York State Thruway Authority.
The agency wants to raise tolls for EZ Pass users by 5% beginning next January.
Drivers without an EZ Pass would pay 75% more.
Erie County lawmakers argue there should be other alternatives to increasing tolls.
"I personally believe the best way to address this is to fix the system that's currently in place versus putting an undo hardship on the residents," says James Malczewski, Erie County Legislator.
The Thruway Authority has argued the cost of steel, gravel, and employee raises have all gone up over the past 14 years, but tolls have not.
