ALBANY, N.Y. — The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (NYS DMV) has begun issuing vehicle inspection stickers with a new look.
The NYS DMV says it is transitioning to the "print-on-demand" which will add more security by adding specific information about the vehicle on the sticker.
“This new process will enable inspection stations to print stickers right on their premises, rather than having to wait for a supply of stickers to arrive from DMV,” said DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder in a release. “This change is part of our efforts to transform the DMV’s customer service. The stickers will also enhance security by having information about the vehicle printed directly on them.”
The new stickers will be printed at inspection sites and will look different than the previous versions. The sticker color will still changed based in the expiration year.
Some motorists have already received the stickers, with the transition happening throughout 2023. Some motorists will still have the look of the previous sticker until the end of 2024.
The DMV will be working with local law enforcement agencies about the new stickers. Police officers will be able to confirm the validity of the stickers based on the information.
