Expect lane closures for nightly road work on I-290 in Town of Tonawanda and Amherst

Guiderail work is set to begin on Monday, March 7 on weeknights.

AMHERST, N.Y. — Drivers in Amherst and the Town of Tonawanda need to be aware of overnight lane closures because of roadwork on I-290.

The New York State Department of Transportation said on Tuesday that guiderail work is set to take place on weeknights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting on Monday, March 7. The work from NY Route 425 (Colvin Boulevard) to I-90  will vary nightly from eastbound to westbound.

The work is weather sensitive and could be delayed in the event of inclement weather.

Drivers are reminded that fines double for speeding in work zones, and to move over a lane or drive slowly whenever encountering roadside vehicles displaying red, white, blue, amber or green lights, including maintenance and construction vehicles in work zones.
