TONAWANDA, N.Y. — One Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority worker has died following a paratransit bus rollover crash that happened Wednesday morning.
A Metro-Link employee, 60-year-old Chequita Smith, died in the crash around 6 a.m.
"The driver and another passenger were treated for non-life threatening injuries," the NFTA said in a 3 p.m. update.
Smith worked as an operator and instructor for more than nine years.
"Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with her have lost a dear friend," the NFTA said. "No words can adequately express our sadness. We ask that you please keep Chequita’s family and friends in your prayers."
The ramp from the I-190 South to the I-290 East reopened later in the day.
Traffic Tracker 2's Dave Cash reported that a driver and two passengers were on the bus at the time. All three people were taken to Erie County Medical Center.
The NFTA reports that the accident is under investigation.
