BUFFALO, N.Y. — New York State Police are investigating a double fatal crash that closed part of the I-190 southbound early Friday morning in the City of Buffalo.
The crash happened just after midnight.
Troopers say an SUV driven by Rebecca A. Vosburgh, 36, of Cheektowaga was traveling south on the I-190 when her vehicle struck the guardrail and her vehicle became disabled, block two lanes.
A second vehicle, driven by Zoraida Delgado, 27, of Buffalo was also traveling southbound, saw the accident and pulled over to offer assistance.
While the two drivers were talking, a tractor trailer traveling southbound was approaching the accident scene, but investigators say due to the crest of the highway and low visibility, the driver, from Ohio, was unable to avoid the disabled SUV and hit the vehicle. The tractor trailer jackknifed and went through the guardrail.
Vosburgh was taken to the hosptial, where she later died of her injuries. Her passenger James M. Papaj, 58, of Tonawanda died at the scene.
The driver of the tractor trailer, Richard E. Spence, 65, of Cleveland, Ohio, was not hurt.
Delgado was not injured, but their vehicle suffered minor damage in the accident.
The I-190 was reopened at 6:30 a.m.
