Gas prices remain stable in WNY

One year ago, the national average gas price reached a record high.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The national average price of a gallon of gas has gone down slightly since last week while prices in Western New York and across the state remained consistent, according to data from AAA.

The average price of a gallon of gas in Buffalo is $3.68, gas in Batavia is $3.64, and in Rochester it is $3.73; all of which are the same as last week.

Nationally, the average price of gas has gone down nearly two cents from last week to $3.58. Across New York State, the average price of gas has remained the same at $3.69.  A year ago the state average was $5.01 and the national $4.98.

These gas prices have been kept stable by lower demand and low oil prices, according to AAA. If this trend of lower demand for gas continues, AAA anticipates fluctuations in prices this week.

This is occurring at the one-year mark from the highest recorded average gas prices across the county at $5.02. In New York State, the average price of gas was $5.04 a gallon.

Meanwhile, diesel prices have continued to fall. The average national price is down two cents from last week to $3.87 a gallon and the New York State average has dropped two cents from last week to $4.46.

AAA also notes that drivers should make sure their vehicle's tire pressure is at the recommended level to achieve the best gas mileage. Drivers should also remove any unnecessary and bulky items from their vehicles because it takes more fuel to accelerate a heavy vehicle.
