The steady gas prices may soon make a change

While weekly gas prices may not have had much of a difference in price that could soon change.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — While weekly gas prices may not have much of a difference in price that could soon change.

AAA and GasBuddy released this weeks price for gas which is up by three cents at a national average of $3.11.

The New York State average is $3.26, just the same as it was a week ago.

AAA Western and Central New York reported gas prices in WNY are as follows:

  • Buffalo - $3.36 (down 2 cents from last Monday)
  • Batavia - $3.29 (no change from last Monday
  • Elmira - $3.04 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
  • Ithaca - $3.20 (down 3 cents from last Monday)
  • Rochester - $3.26 (down 2 cents from last Monday)
  • Rome - $3.27 (down 3 cents from last Monday)
  • Syracuse - $3.23 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
  • Watertown - $3.15 (no change from last Monday)

One reason for the slight decline in gas could likely be caused by the lower gas demand along with the higher cost in oil. AAA says that December and January is when gas prices are typically lower however, that could change come February.

Head of Petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, Patrick Da Haan, says that the the slight increase may continue slowly after weather related impacts.

"While prices have inched up and may continue to slowly rise, I believe the larger increases will be witnessed in a few weeks as we enter mid-February, lasting through April or May, during which the national average could rise 35 to 85 cents per gallon," Haan said.
