The latest average gas prices in NYS and WNY

Experts say motorists can expect to see higher gas prices across the country as people hit the road to travel this summer.
Refineries are required by the federal government to produce different blends of gasoline for warmer and colder seasons.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — AAA of Western and Central New York have issued their weekly average gas prices of New York State and Western New York. 

AAA says the national average price of gas per gallon is $3.51, which is up two cents from last week. Last year, the national average of a gallon of gas was $3.54. For New York State, the average price per gallon of gas is $3.62, which is up three cents from last week. 

Here's the latest averages around the state, including in Western New York, according to AAA. 

  • Batavia - $3.58 (up 6 cents from last Monday)
  • Buffalo - $3.61 (up 3 cents from last Monday)
  • Elmira - $3.51 (up 12 cents from last Monday)
  • Ithaca - $3.68 (up 5 cents from last Monday)
  • Rochester - $3.64 (up 3 cents from last Monday)
  • Rome - $3.65 (up 3 cents from last Monday)
  • Syracuse - $3.59 (up 3 cents from last Monday)
  • Watertown - $3.66 (up 4 cents from last Monday)

Experts say motorists can expect to see higher gas prices across the country as people hit the road to travel this summer. 

AAA predicted nearly 71 million people traveled 50 miles or more from home this past Independence Day holiday weekend. 

Diesel prices have also increased slightly.  The national average for diesel is $3.85/gallon.  That is up five cents from last week.  The average price in New York is $4.25, which remains the same from last week. Oil prices remain steady, AAA says. Prices range $82 to $86 per barrel.
