AAA: Gas prices increase across country and WNY

The New York State average price of gas is up five cents from last week.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Drivers across the country and in Western New York will feel an increase in prices at the pump.

According to a report from AAA, the average price of gas for the country is up four cents to $3.37 and the New York State average is up five cents from last week to $3.55.

Locally in WNY, drivers are seeing increases in prices. In Buffalo the average price of gas per gallon is up four cents to $3.49 and the average price of gas in Batavia is up eight cents to $3.51 per gallon, according to AAA.

Further out from WNY, Rochester saw an increase of five cents from last week to $3.55 a gallon.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) says that demand for gasoline is the typical range for winter driving season, but the increase in prices for gas has to do with continued growth of crude oil prices.

As of Monday morning, a release from AAA reported crude oil prices in the high $80 to low $90 range. These price increases are being caused by tensions between Russia and Ukraine. Concerns about a looming invasion are pushing the prices up in already a tight global supply.

AAA says drivers can conserve fuel by mapping their routes, avoiding peak traffic times, using cruise control when possible and combining errands into one trip.
