BUFFALO, N.Y. — On Tuesday, the Buffalo Common Council passed a resolution asking the mayor's administration to consider a pause on the school zone camera program.
Three Buffalo Common Council members, President Darius Pridgen, Rasheed Wyatt, and Joe Feroleto had written a resolution requesting the commissioner of parking and the mayor of the City of Buffalo to consider a pause on the execution of the contract between the city and Sensys Gatso.
The proposed resolution stated: Respectfully requests the commissioner of parking and the mayor of The City of Buffalo to consider a pause on execution of the contract in Item 19-490, between The City and Sensys Gatso, as it concerns the operation of cameras and automated ticketing of moving violations through Buffalo school zones.
After receiving comments from Buffalo residents, the councilmembers submitted the resolution over concerns regarding the operation of the school zone cameras and automated ticketing.
There have been several complaints from drivers in the past several weeks regarding the school zone cameras.
Thousands of drivers who got tickets after being caught on camera speeding near schools in Buffalo are going to have their tickets dismissed.
Some city residents have called the cameras a money grab during a time of hardship for a lot of people.
A 2 On Your Side investigation began when we learned of numerous complaints on the timeliness of the tickets, with people just recently getting citations for infractions alleged to have occurred in late October.
