AMHERST, N.Y. — Leaders in Amherst are trying to find a way to make Main Street more functional for both drivers and pedestrians.
Town supervisor Brian Kulpa said the area between the 290 and Bailey Avenue has more than a dozen speed changes, with pedestrian crossings that can end up in blind spots.
Now the town is working with the New York State Department of Transportation on a study to find a solution.
"We think that there are better things that could happen on Main Street if we paid attention to the real needs of commuters, and to the real needs of the neighborhoods, and balanced the need to move traffic with the need for complete streets," Kulpa told 2 On Your Side.
Kulpa said the growth underway in Amherst will only bring more people to the area, and that the infrastructure needs to be developed with it.
