Local lawmakers are calling on Hochul to sign Climate Change Superfund Act

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Local lawmakers and advocates are calling on Gov. Kathy Hochul to sign the Climate Change Superfund Act.

This comes after nine tornadoes touched down in Western New York this summer, much more than the usual one to two.

According to the legislation, big oil companies would have to pay $3 billion dollars per year over 25 years to address climate related damage and repairs.

"So how about the people who created the problem paying for it? I think that's fair. I think that's fair," Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes said.

The bill passed the State Senate and Assembly in June and now awaits Governor Hochul's signature
