NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. — The City of North Tonawanda announced Friday it has been awarded $1.5 million in funding thanks to the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation’s Green Resiliency Grant Program.

These funds will go directly towards the Oliver Street Green Infrastructure Improvement Project.

In addition to the GRG grant, the New York State Downtown Revitalization Initiative will be supplying $1.5 million, totaling the investment at $3 million.

The goal for Oliver Street according to the city's press release, is to begin construction in the spring and transform and restore the neighborhood. This includes planting trees, creating green spaces, reducing the pavement width, and more.

In addition, the press release highlights issues with the sewer systems, stating that new upgrades to separate stormwater and sanitary systems will help with combined sewer overflow challenges.

“Revitalizing Oliver Street is a key to enhance the overall quality of life for residents and make North Tonawanda a more attractive place for both businesses and visitors,” said Laura Wilson, Director of Community Development.

“This $3 million investment will address not only the infrastructure needs but also environmental challenges, making Oliver Street a safer, greener, and more vibrant corridor. It’s the kind of project that lays the foundation for long-term growth and sustainability.”
