Lockport hiker rescued by helicopter in the Adirondacks

The call concerned a 45-year-old hiker from Lockport with a lower leg injury on Mount Marcy in Keene, N.Y.

KEENE, N.Y. — A person from Lockport who suffered a broken leg while hiking was recently rescued in the Adirondacks.

The rescue happened on Oct. 26, and it began with a call to the Ray Brook dispatch center at 1:45 p.m. The call concerned a hiker with a lower leg injury on Mount Marcy in Keene, N.Y. 

A New York State Police pilot flew two forest rangers to the scene. One ranger lowered the other down to the 45-year-old from Lockport. Once on the ground, the ranger stabilized the broken leg, the hiker was lifted into the helicopter, which then made its way to a nearby hospital.

The hiker's husband was escorted by rangers to a nearby lodge.
